Bashley 3rd team made the short journey to New Milton to compete in their first game of the new 2020 county league. Bashley won the toss and elected to bat first.
Bashley made a very positive start and the runs were coming at a steady pace, however, wickets were also falling at regular intervals. After 18 overs Bashley found themselves on 104-6 after some outstanding catching from the New Milton side with Ryan Taylor (26) and James Underwood (19) being the largest contributors. Captain Sam Scott joined Sean Mulley and looked to ensure Bashley utilised their full 40 overs. This partnership added a valuable 69 runs before Sean Mulley was caught for a well made 30. Chris Gates then joined Scott and scored a quick fire 21 before being bowled. Sam Scott ended the innings on 49 not out which lead to Bashley posting a very competitive 237-8 from their full 40 overs.
New Milton’s response started well with the openers (Adams and Ennals) taking the score beyond 50 for the first wicket. Sam Scott was then introduced into the attack and managed to remove both openers in quick succession to reduce New Milton to 62-2. Bashley bowled with great control which kept New Milton behind the rate and wickets regularly fell. This left New Milton on 141-9 after their full 40 overs. Ted Bracey, Josh Parsons, Tom Manning and Louis Prichard all took a wicket each. Sam Scott ended up with figures of 8-0-22-4. This meant Bashley won the game by the margin of 96 runs.
Sam Scott – 49 not out and 4 wickets
Next week (8 Aug), Bashley welcome Bransgore to the BCG for the second game in the new 2020 County group B league.
