The preparation had certainly gone in to protecting the pitch on Saturday night, followed by  a huge effort from the Grounds Staff on Sunday morning following the early morning’s heavy rain.
This morning it was still touch and go as to whether the match would go ahead, but at midday day with still grey skies threatening and gallons of water cleared from the sheets the umpires agreed – Game on.
Bashley won the toss and elected to bowl first. Ryan Macciocchi took a wicket with the first ball of the innings, and spirits were high. Basingstoke finished the finished 131/6 off 20 overs, with their captain’s wicket falling for a very respectable 59 in the last over to a catch behind the wicket from Chris Ridley.
In reply, Bashley had a bit of a twitchy start, losing 3 wickets early. Chris Ridley (59 not out) and Chris Vaughan ( 50 not out) steadied the ship, seeing Bashley through to the next round
