Well, there have been warmer evenings to watch a game of cricket, but the welcome was warm and Bashley did themselves proud !
A phenomenal effort from the grounds-staff this week ensured that the match not only went ahead, but also looked superb on the day. A huge team effort from the club members ensured that cars were parked, players were fed and beer was re-located to the nursery ground. T20 friendly, Dorset V Hampshire – game on !
The Hampshire Royals squad included Michael Carberry, Jimmy Adams, Sean Irvine and Tino Best, much to the delight of our young autograph and selfie hunters – and last-minute addition, Bashley’s George Pardoe as 12th Man.
Dorset’s line up included Bashley’s Michael Porter, Jake Lilley, Josh Digby, Tom Jacques and former Bashley player Luke Webb
Hampshire opened the batting, and despite a massive 6 disappearing out of sight into the hedgerow on the other side of Bashley Road early in the match, Dorset held their nerve with a flurry of wickets : Josh Digby ( 2 for 33) and Robbie Pack (2 for 29), and Hampshire set a target of 174/8 for Dorset to chase.
As the cold descended and the sea mist rolled in, Dorset batted to a final score of 117.
A highly enjoyable evening of cricket, despite the cold. An excellent performance and experience for the Dorset squad plus lots of excitement from Bashley’s Juniors in meeting top class cricketers. And BBC South reporting  live from BCG.
Well done, Bashley – a day to remember
Dorset CC return to Bashley this Sunday for their one Day match against Devon CC
