Libby Pardoe has been swimming all winter to raise funds for Bashley ( Rydal) Cricket Club.
When the club’s Family Fun Day was rained off for a 2nd consecutive year on August Bank Holiday last summer, Libby decided that she wanted to do something to help….
In October 2015, she set herself the challenge to swim the equivalent distance of the length of the River Thames, 214 miles in total.
Libby has been quietly swimming a mile a day on average all through the winter. Although she has been joined by some of the club members on a few occasions in recent weeks, most of this challenge has been on her own, at all times of the day or night, around her work and studies.
As the cricket season got underway with pre-season friendly matches and a club match at Bashley last weekend, Libby approached the end of the challenge. Last Saturday she was joined in the pool by a group of Bashley (Rydal’s) junior cricketers for what became known as the “End of the Swim” swim. Libby swam a mile and a half that day ( 96 lengths), whilst the U9s and U11 swimmers themselves almost matched her with a combined total of 95 lengths
Libby, the players and club members then gathered back at the clubhouse afterwards to celebrate not just Libby’s achievement, but also her 20th Birthday.
Everyone involved with Bashley ( Rydal) Cricket Club would like to thank Libby for her dedication and commitment to raising much-needed funds for the Club.
