In glorious sunshine, Bashley 3rds made the short trip to play a confident and a high flying Sway 1st team.Bashley won the toss and elected to bat first and made a steady start until Ryan Taylor was bowled for 13. Almost immediately Harry Anstee was run out for 1 to leave Bashley in trouble at 25 for 2 after 10 overs. Opener Lawrence Drake batted steadily as further wickets fell at regular intervals to the impressive Sway change bowlers Powis (3 for 25) and Grasham (2 for 13). Drake’s patient innings was eventually ended when he was caught for an excellent 42 and Bashley were in serious trouble at 77 for 8 after 35 overs. Nick Clark (26 not out) and Paul Kemp (11) provided some late order resistance but Bashley were eventually all out for a very disappointing and below par score of just 118.
After tea the Bashley bowlers strove hard to take early wickets. Sean Read bowled impressively and was unlucky on several occasions as he finished on 0 for 17 off his 9 overs. Nick Clark (2 for 37) bowled with great energy and did induce a couple of edges caught behind by Graham Pardey but Sway always had the run chase well under control. Young Tom Saunders (1 for 26) also bowled well but opener Noble (42 not out) batted steadily and well supported by Charton (23 not out) saw Sway home to a comfortable 6 wicket victory.
