The 5s recorded its first win of the season at New Milton on Saturday and ended our run of 5 golden ducks in the last 4 matches. Loosing the toss and having to bat first on a slow low wicket, we lost Joe Edmunds to the 6th ball of the game. Liam Miller then bowled a great spell of 10-3-18-2 which kept us restricted and at 37 for 5 after 21 overs we were looking down the barrel. Sam Shean then came to the wicket to score is first 50 for the 5s ending not out on 58. He was ably supported by Keith Manning (18) , Toby Mills, Cavan Davey and Chloe ann and with extras of 33 we edged to a competitive score of 144 after our 42 overs. Our young guns then got to work on the New Milton batting with an ideal pitch to help them seam and spin us to victory. The welcome return of Jack Lister gave us some much needed control at the start, bowling 7-2-11-1. Sam Presland and Cavan Davey then both picked up two wickets a piece, before Toby Mills 8-3-6-3, who bowled with great control, and Thomas Hayward Cox 2.2-0-6-2 finished off the innings, with New Milton all out for 78. The bowlers were well supported by much improved fielding and by Jack Harris behind the stumps who took two good catches, the second standing up to Toby. Well done the 5s, next week Fawley 3s at Ballard.
