Bashley’s U15s were in action at home today against local rivals Lymington. This was always going to be a tough match, but with a team of just 9 players, many younger than U15, this task looked even taller ! Bashley opened the batting tentatively against Lymington’s bowling attack, but as they started to push for runs, looking for extras and calling well, the total started to grow. Batting performances from J. Harris ( 23), T. Mills ( 21) and S. Presland ( 21 n.o) helped build the final score to 114 for 6.
Lymington started strongly, with T. Sykes retiring on 40, and it initially looked as if it would not take the visitors long to reach the target. Bashley’s bowlers battled back: a flurry of wickets and lean overs stored their nerve, and it looked as if anything was possible. Lymington batted on, finding the gaps in our reduced fielding strength, and a couple of boundaries in the 17th over finally saw Lymington over the line.
Nevertheless, a great performance from the Bashley lads who showed great spirit and intent to push the match on as far as possible
