On a warm day in Fareham, Bashley won and elected to bat first.
After a flurry of early wide balls, Bashley lost 2 wickets in quick succession to move the score to 34-2. Sam Scott then joined Paul Kemp and the pair put on 31 runs before Kemp was unfortunate to be bowled for 23. Simon Morris joined Scott and 23 was added to the score before Morris was adjudged LBW for 8. Kevin Nash then walked out to the middle for the first time in 6 years and started striking the ball nicely. With the score on 118, Skipper Sam Scott was caught for a well made 35. Nash continued to score quickly before he was caught and bowled for 21. Some late striking from Neil Taylor (35 not out) meant Bashley posted 176-7 from the 45 overs. This included 2 straight sixes in the last over to get the extra bonus point.
In response Fareham & Crofton made a fast start scoring 28 from the first 4 overs before Tucker was caught by Sam Scott of the bowling of Jack Griffiths (4-0-30-1). Jack Allan, making his third team debut, came on from the Pavillion end and bowled with great accuracy and cleaned up Fareham opener Townson for 18. Allan returned figures of 8-0-31-1. Fareham then lost a flurry of wickets to reduce them to 76-5 thanks to the bowling of Simon Morris. Morris bowled with pace and accuracy to take 4 crucial wickets for just 24 runs from his 9 overs. Fareham then found a partnership between Wimble and Briggs who took the score to 124 before the former was bowled. Needing 34 from the final 10 overs with 4 wickets hand, the game was in Fareham’s hands. To try and defend the total, the captain threw the ball to Kevin Nash. Having not bowled in a while, Nash bowled well to take the game to the final over. Needing 3 to win from the last over, Nash bowled 5 dot balls and a wide to mean they needed 2 from the last ball. Fareham managed to scamper a single on the last ball meaning an enjoyable game that was played in good spirits ended in a tie.
Next up, Bashley 3s take on Shanklin at the BCG.
