Bashley 3s made the trip to Oakley and were asked to bat first. Given the rain that had fallen previously, batting was tough. Jack Harris and Tom O’Sullivan put on 32 runs before Jack Harris was caught behind for 13. Tom O’Sullivan (10) and James McMurray soon followed Harris back to the pavilion to leave Bashley on 46-3. Captain Sam Scott joined Ryan Taylor and the pair started to rebuild before Taylor was caught and bowled for a brisk 22. Wickets then fell constantly around Scott and Bashley were eventually bowled out for 122 in the 33rd over with Sam Scott left 30 not out.
Neil Taylor – 1000 wickets and counting
Brad Compton-Bearne set the tone for his innings by blasting the first ball of the run chase over the mid-wicket fence for 6. He then smashed the second over for 23 and continued the assault throughout his innings. Compton-Bearne seemed to be batting on a different pitch to everyone else on the day as the other Oakley batters found conditions tough much like the Bashley side. The first wicket to fall was due to an expertly taken side foot finish by Neil Taylor to run out Will Cheyney. Neil Taylor then claimed his 1,000th victim when he bowled Will Montgomery (although Neil claims he has many more that havent been recorded). Sam Scott and Ben Worboys also took a wicket meaning Oakley chased the total 4 wickets down. Oakley reached a winning total of 126 in the 16th over with Brad Compton-Bearne smashing his way to 107 not out from 40 balls. This included 5 fours and 13 sixes.
